My name is Vivien Bong and I was born in Adelaide, Australia and moved to Melbourne when I was three. I’m 21 [years old] studying Digital Media Design at Swinburne University in Melbourne, Australia. I’m the youngest in my family, and I have older twin sisters.
What is your favourite dish?
I have no idea! I can never choose favourites when it comes to anything! I have such a sweet tooth though! I love desserts; tarts, pies, cookies, cakes, pastries! Also, anything that my mum cooks! I will never say no to food, if you’re going to offer me anything, I will say yes. Unless I’m super full or I really don’t want to eat it for some reason. I do love caramel, does that count? Oooo and pancakes! And fresh donuts! Delish! (I’m now just avoiding the question)

Where did my adventure into food start? It probably started when I was about 14, I decided to make some cookies for church. I saw this amazing recipe for chocolate s’mores cookies from a blog. Since then I’ve been on a crazy food adventure, constantly getting distracted by it and always trying new things when I can. I remember asking my mum what it meant to ‘cream’ butter, I can always count on my mum to support me. Although she does tease me about all the plates I keep in my room, I know that she’s happy to step aside and let me use the kitchen for the afternoon. Since that time, I baked those cookies, I have been hooked.
Baking has also become something I do to relax. It’s my getaway from everything that’s going on and it just makes me feel calm and relaxed while I do it. It’s always been an escape for me and I know that I can always go back to it.
If it were your last weekend on earth, what city would you visit to eat and why?
I would go to London. I’ve never been, so this would be the perfect excuse! Haha. For some reason, all the things I love are from the UK. No idea how come, but it seems to be the case. I would love to go to Cupcakes and Doilies, to try their cakes, I would love to try Jamie Oliver’s food! I really want to try Scotch Eggs.
Tell us more about your food page.
I started My Delicious Distractions just over a year ago. I kept telling my friends I would do it for about 3 years prior to that, so I finally got around to it! My main inspirations of my page are all the different blogs I have been following for years, as well as, YouTube food channels.
The reason I called it delicious distractions, was because I’m always getting distracted by food;
Looking at blogs, watching cooking shows. I figured I might as well make my distractions somewhat productive and share my distractions with the world.
What activities do you do that makes you feel most content?
Definitely baking. I also love editing videos! Love editing interview videos or travel videos. Being able to see people being themselves is my favourite thing and seeing them enjoying themselves or telling you about something they’re passionate is amazing.
What are you grateful for?
I am so grateful that I am able to bake when I want, that I have such a wonderful kitchen that I can use. I’m so grateful for having such amazing friends and family that love and support me in anything that I do! No matter what it is.
What are you hoping to accomplish by the end of the year?
I would love to start selling my baked goods! That would be amazing. If I could set up a business for selling my cakes, that would be my dream.
What is the first thing that comes to mind when I say ‘Foodie’?
When I hear foodie, I think of me! Haha. But seriously, I think a foodie is someone that loves food and appreciates it. Someone who wants to share their love for food with everyone else.
